eviews matter. They help people decide whether to book, they give future customers a little more confidence, and they can help your business show up more often when people are searching for rentals in your area, but asking for reviews can do more than help your Google rating. A good follow-up can also tell you what happened after the customer left the dock, returned the golf cart or dropped off the RV. And sometimes that feedback is more valuable than the review itself.
Most customers won’t tell you when something felt off
Maybe check-in took longer than expected. Maybe the customer had trouble understanding a policy. Maybe there was an equipment issue your team didn’t know about.
None of those things necessarily turn into a complaint. A lot of customers simply leave. That’s the part operators don’t always see.
If you have a simple way to follow up after the rental, you have a much better chance of hearing about those little problems while they’re still fresh, and that gives you a chance to actually do something about them.
Keep the follow-up simple
This doesn’t need to be a long survey. In fact, it probably shouldn’t be. A short text asking how the experience went is usually enough to get a read on how the customer felt. If they had a great time, you’ve got a happy customer who may be willing to share their experience publicly.
If something went wrong, now your team knows. That’s where the real value is. Maybe you reach out and apologize. Maybe you issue a refund. Maybe you explain what happened. Maybe you discover something in the operation that needs to be fixed before the next customer runs into the same thing.
Sometimes a quick follow-up is enough to turn a frustrated customer around. Sometimes it isn’t. Either way, you know what happened.
BookingCentral can handle that follow-up automatically
BookingCentral’s Review Text feature gives operators a simple way to follow up after a rental or activity without adding another task to the team’s list.
After the rental ends, BookingCentral can automatically send the customer a text asking how things went. You can control the timing and the wording, and it runs right alongside the rest of your online booking and check-in flow, so there’s nothing extra for the customer to figure out.
The benefit is that your team starts getting a more consistent stream of feedback without having to remember to send a message after every reservation. That feedback can help you in a few different ways.
Happy customers are more likely to stay engaged with your business and leave a review when asked. Customers who have a problem have an easy way to tell you and over time, you start to see patterns.
One low rating may not mean much. Several customers mentioning the same check-in issue probably does, especially if you’re already watching trends in BookingCentral’s Reports & Analytics, where review and booking data live side by side.
What operators are seeing
We checked in with two BookingCentral merchants who have been using Review Text for more than six months: Ozark Mountain Camper Rentals and Sandbar Powersports.
Both have kept the feature turned on long term, and their feedback points to two of the biggest reasons operators use it: getting more customer feedback without adding another manual task, and making it easier for happy customers to leave a review.
Ozark Mountain Camper Rentals reported seeing more reviews overall after turning Review Text on and said the biggest benefit has been simply getting “more positive reviews.”
Sandbar Powersports highlighted the convenience for the customer. The automatic text gives renters a direct link while the experience is still fresh, which they described as “a good opportunity to solicit feedback.”
One of the operators also told us the feedback process had helped surface a customer issue before it became a bigger problem. That’s where Review Text starts doing more than collecting stars. It gives operators a simple way to stay on top of customer sentiment, spot problems sooner and make review follow-up part of the normal customer experience instead of something the team has to remember to do.
Reviews are marketing, but feedback is operations
It’s easy to think about reviews as strictly a marketing tool. And yes, strong reviews can help with visibility and give new customers more confidence when they’re deciding where to book. But the feedback behind those reviews can also tell you a lot about the business itself.
Are customers confused about where to go?
Are they waiting too long?
Is the same piece of equipment causing problems?
Is one policy creating more frustration than you realized?
That’s useful information and the sooner you hear it, the easier it is to fix.
A few things that make this work better
Send the follow-up while the experience is still fresh. An hour or two after the rental ends is usually going to get you better feedback than waiting several days.
Keep it short. One quick rating or a simple question is plenty.
Make sure someone is actually looking at the responses. Collecting feedback doesn’t help much if nobody follows up on it and checks the bigger picture once in a while. Individual ratings matter, but patterns matter more.
The goal isn’t just more five-star reviews
Of course everyone wants more good reviews, but the better goal is knowing what your customers are actually experiencing. When you make it easy for people to give feedback, you get more chances to fix problems, improve the operation and stay connected with the customers who had a great experience. The stronger reviews usually follow.
BookingCentral’s Review Text feature helps make that follow-up automatic, so it doesn’t become one more thing your team has to remember at the end of a busy day.
